YOU KNOW MY STEEZ

II was 40 years old, and getting my year end performance review andmy boss told me that I have a bright future and that I have a very creative way of doing things that will go along way. I dont remember anything else from that conversation, and I continued to reply what that meant. As a scientist working in a scientific environment, I thought and assummed that there is no creativity in this environment.

But it took me 40 years to understand that creativity isn’t just art, music, drawing, fashion, dancing, writing, and design (OK, the list is long and much longer than what I wrote). Creativity also exists in the way you do things. I don’t know why this concept never occurred to me naturally, because in the Hip Hop community all we talk about is style. The style in which you rap, the style of graffiti you do, the style of breaking or the style of making music or DJing. I never thought of creativity influenzing the way I speak at townhalls, the way I engage staff, the way I motivate staff, the way solve problems and the culture we create at the workplace.

Kenji and Taizo : For clarity, remember that creativity is the way you do things. Creativity doesn’t have to be what you draw, or the way you dance but rather it in the way you do everything. Your style, your steez, your steelo. I don’t think we use these words anymore but they all mean the same thing, “the way you do things”.
